HEATING ELEMENT. The heating element is commonly refered to as: wire, ribbon heatseal band, heating wire, and or element. Most of the heating elements used in the sealers are of nichrome alloy (composition with 80% nickel and 20% copper). Depending on the application, the heating elements come in different shapes and thickness. The most common is the flat band with standard widths from 2mm to 25mm and thicknesses from 0.1mm to 0.5mm. Other types of heating element includes tapered edge, reflex band, beaded , t-profile, and double seam. The round heating element is used for cut and seal in one motion. It comes in different diamters ranging from 0.6mm to 1.0mm. Our 0mm element width products refer to the round heating element. Selection of the heating element depends on the material to be sealed, material thickness, and given application.
TEFLON COVER AND ADHESIVE. The teflon cover serves to prevent the thermoplastic material from sticking to the heating element. For most heat sealing applications, 3mil and 5 mil teflon cover of Standard grade are commonly used. The teflon adhesive is used to insulate the heating element from from the sealer's body. When the sealer's heating element has burned through the bottom Teflon adhesive, the heating element will break and possibly destroying the timer. The teflon adhesive tape comes in different widths and thickness. For heat sealing purposes, the most commonly used are 3 and 6 mils. When replacing the heating element, we recommend replacing the bottom Teflon adhesive to prevent the heating element from breaking.
